Interlocking holds roots tighter and lasts longer between appointments, but it can increase tension and shrinkage. A traditional retwist is a root maintenance method that smooths and trains new growth so your loc grows in a clean, cylindrical rotation. For our Traditional Retwist, Ear Length service, we’re working mainly with the comb coil method. Depending on how your new growth is acting, we may also bring in locksmithing or the wrap method to keep your roots neat without overworking them.

Interlocking is different. Instead of smoothing and coiling, we’re threading the loc through the root to “lock” the new growth in place. It’s a solid option when you want maximum hold at the roots, especially if you sweat a lot, swim often, or need your maintenance to last longer.
